An emerging medical field that uses targeted electrical stimulation of neural circuits to treat disease. Rather than systemic drugs, bioelectronic devices modulate specific nerve pathways to influence inflammation, pain, and organ function.

The bioelectronic approach targets specific neural pathways with precisely delivered electrical signals rather than systemic drugs. Devices range from surgically implanted systems to non-invasive wearables stimulating peripheral nerves through the skin. The goal is to achieve therapeutic effects — reducing inflammation, modulating autonomic function — with greater precision and fewer systemic side effects than pharmacological treatment.

Vagus nerve stimulation is currently the most studied application in bioelectronic medicine.
